How to Cook Kichali Samba Brown Rice in a Pressure Cooker

Kichali Samba Brown Rice (கிச்சிலி சம்பா கைக்குத்தல் அரிசி) takes slightly longer to cook than polished rice but delivers rich flavor and nutrition. Follow this simple method using a pressure cooker:


🍚 Ingredients:

  • Kichali Samba Brown Rice – 1 cup

  • Water – 3 cups

  • Optional: A few drops of sesame oil or a pinch of salt


🔥 Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice well 2–3 times under running water to remove excess starch.

  2. Soak the rice for 30–60 minutes. This step improves softness and reduces cooking time.

  3. Add 1 cup of soaked rice to 3 cups of water in the pressure cooker.

  4. Add a few drops of oil to prevent foaming (optional).

  5. Close the lid and cook on medium heat until you hear 4–5 whistles. Then reduce to low flame and let it simmer for another 10 minutes before turning off the heat

  6. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally.

  7. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
